From the recording … Flying
Luisa: This song earns the distinct award of Biggest Challenge We've Ever Had in the Studio. We couldn't quite figure out the feel we wanted and tried many different things from percussion loops to electric guitars to scrapping it completely and rebuilding it from scratch! I think we finally did find the feel and we almost got it right. Frank & I both always say we'd like another crack at it so don't be surprised if it shows up on a future album. That said, I love playing this one live. So simple: Frank plays, I sing and play the shaker. Perhaps that's the secret.
Frank: A great Chris Aleo drum arrangement on this one.
Lyrics
L. Tanno
I’ve been down this very road
now three times
I recognize each landmark here
and every sign
But just because it’s familiar
that doesn’t make it mine
Duration of love, well
it varies and it dies
But it’s the degree of that
variation I analyze and analyze
But to ask him now what he’s thinking
that would betray his eyes
But I, I forget to start at the beginning
I find that I work my way back from the end
Oh it’s like I’m trying to get in all my missing
before the real heartache begins
So I’m in black for something that
still survives
I’m blinding my heart
to moments it’s entitled
I question when he’s near me
how soon he will be gone
But I, I forget to start at the beginning
I find that I work my way back from the end
Oh it’s like I’m trying to get in all my missing
before the real heartache begins
I assume that heartache is a given
Although I know that that’s no way
to do my living
I’ve been down this very road
now three times
You think by now I’d
take the one less traveled by
