From the recording Here Before
Luisa: This song was inspired by the birds in my Grandpa’s backyard and how he loved tending to them. It reminds me of him, and how our dear ones stay with us even when they fly away.
Frank: This was the song that introduced us to our engineer and co-producer Tom Filogomo. We had the song recorded and mixed, but then decided we would like a professional string and flute arrangement to add to this. We loved the job he did arranging, recording and mixing this, and ended up hiring him to oversee our entire album. Great decision!
Lyrics
L. Tanno
The backyard birds will come today
We’ll spread the seed to assure they’ll stay
Then we’ll watch in wonder at their color display
Fly me
We trim the hedge to save the rose
We sow the bed in even rows
But their birdsong summons life to grow
Fly me
And how their beauty made us stare
Precious messengers with light to share
A feather dusts the blanket snow
A token left for us before they go
And life continues in perfect prose
Fly me
And how their beauty made us stare
Precious messengers with light to share
