From the recording Here Before
Frank: Even though this was one of the first songs recorded for "Here Before", it had pretty much been discarded and forgotten. I convinced Luisa to give it another look when we needed a couple more songs for the project. Glad we did. She did a quick rewrite and we rearranged it and laid down the tracks in the big studio. I like the way this one turned out.
Luisa: The essence of the song was always there, I just had to hone in and refine it so that it felt really true. I also originally had Frank play the main guitar part. We decided I should play it so he could add a second guitar. That was the right answer! Not only because his part added so beautifully to the emotion of the song, but because I adore playing it.
Lyrics
L. Tanno
It’s nine a.m. where my heart is
And I am all alone at noon
Left to wonder is it sun that you are under,
And are you thinking of me?
Do you get lost in what could be?
Or have you moved on as well, just like I have?
Can’t you tell?
Yeah, but I was wise to leave you
So much more for me to do
It might be nice to have success and love in life
But me, I knew better
You must choose one, lose the other
Life was all about the trade
And I was proud of the choice I made
I wasn’t foolish for the leaving
But I could kick myself believing
I had to ration my life and make you
My sacrifice
All my books are off the shelf
And still no knowledge of myself
I had my fairytale, and now I climb through hell
Thinking that was the way
Then I was sure it’d be today
My emptiness it hits me hard
In the center of my disregard
I wasn’t foolish for the leaving
But I could kick myself believing
I had to ration my life and make love
My sacrifice
