From the recording Short Story Long
Frank: I always look forward to doing this one whenever we play live. It's one of Luisa's best. The lead guitar part in this song was heavily influenced by fingerstyle guitarist Al Petteway. I absolutely love his tasteful playing.
Luisa: I always dread doing this one whenever we play live! I love the song, but fingerpicking live makes me nervous so I often try and sneak it out of the set list. Now that we have it recorded, it takes the pressure off and I am delighted with how it turned out.
Lyrics
L. Tanno
We all catalogue our fears
In an order that’s perverse
We decide sharing is the worst
I’ve been known to state with pride
Just how few have seen me cry
As if that’s somehow divine
But now I stand here accused
Of having a heart I don’t much use
And how the truth can wound you on an honest day
When your actions take intention a whole other way
And as I choke on all the things I want to say
He walks away
I’m not really trying to hide
It’s not like I haven’t tried
To expose what goes on inside
I suppose as we mature
Closeness has a new allure
But desire does not provide a cure
So I stand accused
Of having a heart I don’t much use
And how the truth can wound you on an honest day
When your actions take intention a whole other way
And as I choke on all the things I want to say
He walks away
And could it feel this bad to just have given all I had
He walks away
He walks away
