From the recording Short Story Long
Frank: Just a basic ‘not sad’ love song. We should all have one. Was written around 1989, and I decided to resurrect it as I’ve always had a fondness for it. The Beatles influence is all over this one. The relaxed feeling of the song comes from a style of playing I developed in my teens, as I tried to play quietly through all hours of the night. For a while, all my songs sounded like this. The nylon string guitar on this track is Luisa’s 1960 Martin Classical 00-28G, which used to belong to her Grandfather. It was a real honor and a treat to play such a beautiful instrument.
Luisa: This is indeed the only “happy” love song in the bunch. He says “not sad”, I say “happy”. These are the creative differences that keep things interesting for us, isn’t that right Frankie? Or “not wrong” maybe?
Lyrics
F. Veres
My day isn’t through
Until I open up my arms and take hold of you
Long is the night
Until you take me in your arms and you hold me tight
Sometimes your gentle touch is all I need
I’m not the same
Someone has stole away my heart and baby you’re to blame
What can I do?
Except to wrap up my love and give it all to you
Sometimes your gentle smile is all I need
Some night you may need a shoulder to cry on
Come lay your head down next to mine
‘Cause my heart is one that you can rely on darling
So close your eyes, I’ll make it right
Some night when I need a shoulder to cry on
Come lay your head down next to mine
‘Cause your heart is one I’ve come to rely on darling
So close your eyes, and make it right
My day isn’t through
Until I open up my arms and take hold of you
Warm is the night
When you take me in your arms and you hold me tight
Sometimes your love is all I need
